“Whether you’re keeping a journal or writing as a meditation, it’s the same thing. What’s important is you’re having a relationship with your mind.”-Natalie Goldberg
I’m always looking for ways to craft more. At this point in my life, I have include arts & crafts in my self-care routine, in my relationships, and in my career. I truly believe the key to joy and motivation is creativity. And I personally feel the most creative during arts & craft time.
So naturally, I wanted to find way to bring crafting into my journaling.
In January, I found myself in need of new planner because I had reached the end of my Erin Condren Life Planner (ECLP). However, I didn’t want to purchase another ECLP because my needs had changed and it just wasn’t working for me anymore. So I looked around for other less expensive options for planners and came across the The Happy Planner. I chose the Happy Planner because it’s in the $20 dollar range and the pages are removal (so it customizable). Having removable pages was important because it allows for more creative freedom while journaling.
My method for scrapbook journaling
By now you’re probably wondering what goes into a scrapbook journal. For me, it is all about bullet style journaling, quotes, doodles and coloring. Within my layouts, I include space for my daily G.L.A.D. journaling prompts (you can learn more about the G.L.A.D method here), a space for coloring, and a space for quotes and/or lists. I like to keep this focused on the here and now, so you won’t find any to-do lists or deadlines in this planner, just inspirational creative fun stuff.
Each Sunday, I created the weekly spread for the upcoming week (you can catch this live on periscope). I like to really take my time doing this. Plus I find it super relaxing. I begin and end my day with my Happy Planner and it’s has made a real difference in my morning routine and mood. I’ve found that I have more energy on days where I coloring/ doodling in the morning. Plus, it keeps me from grabbing my phone as so as I wake up.
But enough with the telling, allow me to show you this week’s scrapbook journaling spread.
