We’ve all been there. Some days are rougher than others no matter how much planning and effort you put in. But it isn’t our circumstance that makes or breaks us, it’s our thoughts and responses to those situations. For instance, I’ll share my story of the no pay, payday.
After two weeks of working, I was desperately looking forward to my check. This was my free check (you know the ones you can spend on anything). I had plans to get my hair done, do a little shopping at Anthropologie, and most importantly buy a shit load of craft supplies. But atlas, my plans of shopping were ruined when my check wasn’t deposited into my account. So I followed the chain of command at my job, only to find out there was an error with my paperwork and the only person who could fit it was on vacation for another 2 days. To say that I was pissed would be the understatement of the year. Now I could have done two things: 1) showed my ass or 2) kept it professional and waited until the problem could be fixed. I went with option 2. Why? Because I don’t believe in drama or foolishness. I know you may be thinking, WTF, Tranae? Believe me, I get it. My 20-year-old self would have told somebody off that day. However, the person who types this post knows that option one only leads to loss of time, energy, professionalism, and possibly a job.
There Will Be Rough Days
There is no avoiding them. However, they can be survived with grace and kindness. So the next time you’re having a rough day, try this:
1. Manifest It Better
I’m a huge fan of positive affirmations and I believe we have the power to manifest happiness (or anything for that matter). How? Just make up an “I choose” statement that focuses on the desire outcome. Example: I choose to have a peaceful, productive, and amazing day. Then say it repeatedly. Even though, I didn’t get my check on my payday, I still manage to have a decent day after I reprogramed my intentions.
2. Rock Out
Turn up the radio and sing (or rap) as loud as you can. My personal favorite is “gangsta” rap from the 90s. I’m not a “G” in real life but it’s something about Tupac’s music that makes me feel like i’m Ironman.
3. Wash it Away
Nothing feels better than a hot shower or bath when I’m feeling ugh. While I’m in the water I like to visualize the negativity washing down the drain.
4. Embrace it
Bottling up your feelings will only lead to misery. If you need to find a quiet place to cry it out, do it. Then dry your tears and carry on with your day. Just don’t throw a pity party. Most folks hate getting invited to those.
5. Throw in the Towel
If all fails, then throw in the towel. Go home, put on some comfy PJ, make a cocktail, and curl up in the bed. Tomorrow is a new day and it is an opportunity for new experiences.
How do you survive rough days? Leave a comment below. I really want to know.

I understand perfectly your situation! I was supposed to receive some money the other day…but the team in charge, completely forgot about me! It was a good thing that I ALWAYS follow up with a pay period! Otherwise, who knows how long I would’ve had to wait!

It really sucks when folks mess up your money. I’m glad your situation worked out for you.

Great tips here, I think I would have cried in your situation. Though choosing grace in that situation was the best choice.

I hate when you are expecting to do something fun with your money for a change, and then the unexpected happens, and you wind up sitting at home, beating yourself up. However, I have found that sometimes these things happen for a reason, and the check comes when you actually need it the most!

I had to visit this “Sorry You’re Having a Ruff Day” card again! It is so cute! I would love to order one, just to hang on my wall!!!

I prefer the “Rock Out” theory for a blue day! Turn on your favourite radio station, or your music system, and sing the blues away!!! Another favourite of mine, is to put on a great comedy film, and laugh your a$$ off!!!

I get through my rough day by eating my favorite food: Thai salad.

Being a twenty-year-old, I can definitely see how it’s easy to get angry. However, suffering from anxiety always keeps me from doing that. Part of me wonders if it is partly a blessing as well as a curse. Loved this post.
